Music at Saint Agatha

Saint Agatha possesses many opportunities for musicians of all ages. It is through the use of music during the liturgy that we give glory to God and sanctify his people (Pope Pius X). It is our hope that the music at each mass provides the soul with inspiration. Saint Agatha invites you to this important ministry within our church. If you have any questions please contact Katherine Florian, Director of Music at 614.488.6149

Music Programs at Saint Agatha

Adult Choir: This group of dedicated musicians meets Thursdays throughout the school year in the sanctuary from 7:30-9:30 PM. Their repertoire consists of the Latin octavos, motets and chants of the Roman tradition along with 19th and 20th century polyphonic anthems composed with vernacular lyrics. The adult choir dedicates their time to the 11:00 AM Mass on Sundays, Christmas Eve, Confirmation, Holy Thursday, Easter Vigil, Easter and other Holy Days as needed.

Children’s and Teen Choirs: These groups of young musicians meet throughout the school year on Sundays(teens, grades 7-12), Mondays (girls grades 3-6), Wednesdays (Training choir - grades K - 2), Thursdays(boys grades 3-6). For accurate rehearsal times contact the parish office. These groups bring much joy to the mass, and we invite all youngsters to participate.

Cantors: This group of talented musicians provides a helpful guidance to the congregation during the musical parts of the mass. The cantors’ chief responsibility is the accurate singing of the Responsorial Psalm and they are also responsible for encouraging the congregation to participate. Each mass at Saint Agatha relies on the talents provided by the Cantor. If you have been blessed with this gift, Saint Agatha invites you to contact the parish office 614.488.6149

Instrumentalists: Provide a vital role in enhancing our music program here at Saint Agatha. Currently, the instrumental ensemble meets before the 9:00 AM mass on Sunday and provides music through which we glorify God. The ensemble currently consists of the following: Flutes, Oboe, Trumpet, Cello, and double bass. If you have studied music and would like to join our ensemble please contact the Parish office 614.488.6149

Handbells: This newly formed group meets Wednesday’s from 7:30 – 9:00 PM. The ringing of handbells provides an opportunity for musicians to create beautiful pieces of music that inspire the soul. This team effort requires a dedication to practice and learning. If you are interested, please contact the parish office to inquire about the openings for any handbell positions. 614.488.6149

PSALM 150

Praise God in his holy sanctuary;
Give praise in the mighty dome of Heaven.
Give praise for his mighty deeds
Praise him for his great majesty.
Give praise with blasts upon the horn,
Praise him with harp and lyre.
Give praise with tambourines and dance,
Praise him with flutes and strings.
Give praise with crashing cymbals,
Praise him with sounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
Give praise to the LORD!
HALLELUJAH!
